Teacher's "teaching the chitlins in the ghetto" Facebook post gets her fired

A Charlotte, SC teacher faces firing for posting derogatory comments about students on her Facebook account and four other teachers have been disciplined for posts involving “poor judgment and bad taste.”  Apparently, the soon-to-be fired teacher stated on the site that “teaching chitlins in the ghetto of Charlotte” was one of her activities and drinking was one of her hobbies--she teaches in a school where most students are minorities from low-income homes.  In her “About Me” section she wrote: “I am teaching in the most ghetto school in Charlotte.”  She's currently on paid vacation pending appeal.  Criminy.  Remember folks, Facebook is forever!  [The State]

Target rent-a-cop costs the company a $3.1 million verdict

Back in 2006, Bethany Zucco, of Greenville, SC tried to purchase items from two Target stores using real $100 bills.  Problem is that a Target rent-a-cop thought the bills were phony sent her photograph to other businesses and law enforcement personnel.  The Secret Service interviewed her at work before clearing her.  Bethany says she incurred $200 (yep, $200) in medical expenses and her reputation was tarnished as a result of Target's actions... so she sued... and won.  Target now owes her $100,000 in compensatory damages and $2 million in punitive damages.  Target, realizing the award is about half of CEO Gregg Steinhafel makes each year, has decided to appeal.  Gregg probably has yacht payments to make and is likely counting on the $$.  [Greenville Online]

Baby left in car outside of strip club as dad gets a lapdance and mom wiggles on stage

Geoffrey Hale, 27, of Myrtle Beach, SC was arrested after his baby was found inside a car in the parking lot of a local strip club.  Geoff was inside getting a lap dance, the baby's mom was grinding up on stage and the baby was buckled into a car seat in the back seat of a car that was unlocked with the keys inside.  Geoff says he was only there to get a cell phone from his wife and the kid was sleeping and he didn't want to wake her up.  [Myrtle Beach Online]
