French Horn Hazing

7 Southern University band students were charged with aggravated battery and ritualistic acts, both felonies, for beating on three younger members, all of who were in the french horn section.  The three victims were told to bend over, blindfolded (this is the part where normal people run screaming,) splashed with water, slapped with open hands, and slapped on the rear end with a 2 x 4, some up to 50 times.  Yikes.  I thought the band was for geeks, not sadomasochists.  [KSLA News]

Alligator assists with apprehension of liquor store thief

Terry Jones, 23, of Minden, LA admitted to swiping a bottle of Grey Goose vodka from Thirsty's Liquor Store last September.  Store employees watched Terry palm the bottle, leave the store and sit in the parking lot in his car, so they called the law.  When the police arrived, Terry took off his pants (not the first thing I'd do, but ok..), ran across the street and hopped into a swampy area next to the side of the road to hide.  Shortly after entering the water, police watched Terry jump out of the water like a hungry dog chasing a meat truck... apparently an alligator took one look at Terry's nekkid legs, licked its chops and began chasing him.  Terry was arrested for and pleaded guilty to theft and resisting an officer and will serve about a month in the clink.  [NWLAnews]

High school football player beats up his coach after game

Kipton Ramos, 18, of Nampa, LA has been charged with felony aggravated battery after apparently punching his head football coach at the end of a game last week.  The coach had to go to the hospital and suffered a broken nose and eye socket.  Witnesses say the coach was trying to stop a fight between Kipton and a player from the opposing team when Kipton turned on him.  Kipton was apparently upset about a referee's call and though that the best course of action was to start swinging.  Not so smart, dude.  Kippy's been kicked off the team and suspended from school.  Better see if they are hiring down at the car wash, my friend.  All of a sudden, you future ain't lookin' so bright.  [WWLTV]

15-year-old uses stolen credit card to buy pro football ticket, gets caught at game

A 15-year-old in New Orleans, LA snatched a purse from an unlocked car and used the credit card to buy a ticket to the Saints football game.  Police tracked the card, and showed up at the game... the boy was sitting in the seat purchased with the credit card.   When police asked to see his ticket, the kid handed over a white envelope containing the ticket, the stolen credit card and the woman's driver's license.  Police arrested the kid and escorted him out of the Superdome. Walking to the police car, he apologized and told the detectives he has a problem taking things that don't belong to him.  [Houston Chronicle]

Mom arrested for drive-by shooting in Louisiana

Anthonia Montairo Catoire-Miller, 33, of Madisonville, LA was driving along in her car with her three teenage kids when she spotted her daughter's ex-boyfriend hanging out on the street with some friends.  Toni rolled up on him, pulled out a .410 shotgun and fired at him.  Good thing she's a poor shot--even though she was only fifteen to twenty feet away, she missed.  She then went home to hang out.  Police came, she became combative and was handcuffed.  She kicked out the back window of the squad car and had to be tasered.  Oh... police found a shotgun shell in her bra.  She looks like such a sweet lady... there must be some mistake.  [WWL]
